IRONMAN - "Prepare to Perform" - TRAINING CAMP

On January 16-18, Wellington is the place to be for endurance athletes …

The best performance comes down to the fine art of event preparation. This Camp has been planned because we want to ensure that you are well-informed and prepared to the best of your abilities for IMNZ 2015. We are excited to work with all levels of athletes, from those who aspire to become an Ironman for the first time, to those who want to wring every last ounce of performance from their pores. You may want to get ahead of the crowd by starting your IM2016 preparation early and testing your limits.

The itinerary will challenge your physical and mental skills and fitness levels. We will provide you with physical and mental tools that you will use in the final run up to the event and on event day. We have chosen the camp timing so that it fits perfectly into your build-up to Ironman NZ.

YOUR COACHES

“To be at your best, learn from the best”

Jenny Rose

Long Distance World Triathlon Champion; ITU World Series Champion; 4 X ITU World Cup wins; Masters in Sport Coaching; TriNZ High Performance Coach with over 20 years coaching experience

“I absolutely don’t want to give up on this journey you have put me on, I can’t believe what I have achieved and never could have envisioned doing any of this, so thanks so much for everything, you have an amazing talent for helping people get further than they could have dreamed and making things achievable – that is a rare and special gift.” — Lynley Twyman

Shane Reed

Triathlon Olympian

3 X ITU World Aquathon Champion

3 X ITU World Cup wins

30 years swim experience & 9 years coaching experience

"Throughout Shane’s coaching it is evident to see the qualities that made him an Olympic athlete – perseverance, attention to detail and an deep desire to succeed (for both athlete and coach). Shane also has the rare skill of being able to easily & succinctly share his knowledge about all parts of triathlon (the training, the injuries, the gear, your bike, the race tactics etc.) with athletes of all levels at a level that each athlete can relate to. He has the ability to know instinctively when an athlete needs to be pushed and when an athlete needs recovery. His encouragement, reassurance and ability to motivate, through thick and thin, never wanes.

I once saw a quote from Isaac Newton that I think epitomises the relationship Shane and his athletes enjoy: “If I have seen further than others, it is only by standing upon the shoulders of giants”. It is Shane’s shoulders his athletes all stand upon." - Mark Evans

THE ATHLETES

If you are an Ironman or Half Ironman athlete looking to improve your technique (via visual and video-based feedback) and enhance your racing skills whilst challenging yourself with endurance based training sessions, then you need to attend this camp.

We will look to challenge you with bike sessions of up to 160km and you can expect between 4 to 8 hours of training per day, and training will be staggered to provide shorter course options.

We are limiting places on camp to 20 to ensure that we can provide everyone with the highest standard of coaching support.

CAMP LOCATION & TIMING

Wellington is the Coolest Little Capital in the World with awesome trails, spectacular coastlines and cosmopolitan flair; Wairarapa has stunning mountains, valleys and vineyards. Why travel anywhere else when you have it all here close to home.

During Friday we’ll centre our activities from the Wellington Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie. On Saturday support will be provided as you pedal over the Rimutaka Range into the Wairarapa and run into the spectacular Tararua Range. We’ll then relax and enjoy the local cuisine before travelling back to Wellington in team vans. Sunday activities will once again be based in Wellington.

The targeted timing of the camp in mid-January gives you the opportunity to test your fitness and still have time to polish your performance before the Taupo Ironman.

CAMP FEE $375

We’ve made a concerted effort to keep the camp ‘local’, quality centred and affordable. We consider your priority to be getting the most out of the coached training sessions and not the frills and expense provided by 5 star accommodation and meals. We have taken the option of sampling local cuisine for our meals to keep things convenient and seamless.

To achieve this goal we have excluded the requirement of centralised accommodation – if you are Wellington based, you get the convenience of sleeping in your own bed. If you are from out of town, we’ll find you comfortable home-away-from-home accommodation with our friendly local athletes.

Shane and I highly value the information garnished from video capture and feedback – we’ll be providing you with the opportunity to view your swim and run technique before providing you with appropriate skills and drills that will help you become more efficient in your actions.
