Sea Swim Series 2020

The Wellington Coastline Sea Swim Series is a local series of endurance based swim events swam around the Wellington Harbour.

Swims are varied, with a focus on distance and variety. Swims are all over 2 km in length and have been as long as 7 km. We are interested in challenging you to achieve goals you hadn’t thought possible, so let’s see what we can come up with this coming year to get you excited!

Sea Swim Training Sessions

We provide fun, skills based, group sea swim sessions for beginners to experienced swimmers. These sessions are ideal for swimmers who want a well structured open water training session. Who maybe training for sea swim events such as the Capital Classic or for triathlon events

  • Dates: Tuesday nights from 3rd Dec 20 19 to end of January 2020

  • Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

  • Location: Freyberg Beach

Sat Tri Based Session

Sat Tri Based Session

Location: Keith Spry Pool

Session: 7:30 - 10:00 am

Description:

1 hr swim set followed by either a 60-90 min windtrainer or longer aerobic run workout. These sessions vary based on the time of the year and the squad focus but will always start with a swim. The idea is to complete a safe ‘brick’ type triathlon session - warm and dry is perfect for winter months.

The session is great for new triathletes who need to build their skills and fitness for events later in the year and for athletes who have international events during our winter and need a good workout environment.

Winter Windtrainer Sessions

Location: Thorndon Squash and Tennis Club, 4 Katherine Ave, Thorndon

Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Fee: $90/term (9 sessions)

Description:

Sessions are designed for triathletes - a focus on longer aerobic workout sets that are progressively built up over the 9 weeks.

In contrast, the classic gym based spin classics have short, explosive sets - great for a busy professional who wants a 45 min session but not tailored to the demands of the fitness required for triathlon.

Friday 90 min Swim Squad

Location: Keith Spry Pool

Session: 6:00 - 7:30 am

Fee: $15/session. Paid by full term.

Description:

For keen triathletes and swimmers. This session is a key weekly session for anyone who takes their swimming seriously. If you are aiming for an Ironman event or improving your swim skills and performance adding a 90 min pool based swim is a no-brainer.

The session has a similar structure to other sessions with more time able to be spent on warming up/stroke mechanics and the size of the main swim set(s).

Location: Waitangi Park (waterfront)

Session: 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Description:

A 60 - 75 min run based fitness session with a focus on aerobic strength building. Session type is progressive - we build towards your key events and the main set will reflect your fitness level and the period of training you are presently at.

We meet on the Oriental Bay side of Waitangi Park at just after 5:15 pm.

Lights are required during the winter months.
