Join us on Saturday Sept 14th for the WairarapaWomens100.
This is a international women’s riding day - there are events happening all over the world on this day. We are one of many that you can find through the Rapha Womens100 website.
We have achieved our goal of 100 women riding 100 km and I know this wasn’t a fluke - how much can we smash it by? Come out and let’s give it a go, together.
We’re inviting all women cyclists and especially those who would like to set a high level challenge of making their 100k ride. We will provide what you require to complete your goal - a cool supportive group of female cyclists.
The course is undulating but not hilly.
We’ll start, return and then return again to Martinborough – anything to get an extra coffee in! There are two loops in this ride – we’ll nail the bigger Gladstone 66 km first, then the Greytown loop which is 34 km.
To ensure we keep you and your supporters happy along the way we’ll centre proceedings at The Village Café, 6 Kitchener St, Martinborough. If you want a cuppa and cake after the first loop just make yourself at home by popping in and saying hi to Bruce and his staff. They’ll fuel you up for the remainder of the ride.
So this is how we’ll roll ….
o 8:00 – 8:15 am: Those who are aiming for their first 100 k ride or know it’s going to be a big day out & they have a head start to help out
o 8:30 – 8:45: Those who think it’s still a long way but they will manage it with a bit of inspiration from their mates
o 9:15 am: Those who are confident they can finish 100 k without a coffee break
o I predict that everyone will be finished by 2 pm
What you need to know ….
o This is a fun, un-timed, un-marshalled ride on open roads and all riders are taking part at their own risk
o You will get plenty of correspondence prier to the day - a map, instructions & company. But note you will need to look after yourself in terms of following the course. We will put signs out but there will not be marshals.
o You need to come prepared to fix your own punctures so bring a fix-it kit with 2 tubes and a pump. Please bring along a road-safe bike.
o Although you will be passing the café twice on the ride you should take food and drink with you (as well as your visa and coffee card!)
The Route …. 2 loops from The Village Café, Martinborough –
o Loop 1, Gladstone Loop – travelling thru the village square & onto Oxford St – turn left at Todds Rd and follow the back route to Gladstone – left to Carters Line – to Ponatahi Rd & back into Martinborough & past the Village Café & around the town square ... then
o Loop 2, Greytown Loop – Along SH53 towards Featherston but continuing straight onto Bidswills-Cutting Rd and then right onto Fabians Rd – follow to the end and turn right towards Greytown - left just before the main road onto East St - right onto Hospital St - left onto the main st of Greytown and along the road for 50 m. Left onto Bidswills-Cutting Rd and returning along this road to Martinborough & the finish at The Village Café
